2020 Tax Preparation

It's time to gather your 2020 tax information!

In 2020 the printing press at Congress did not pause for a day. Most of the new tax law provisions were directly related to propping up people and businesses affected by the closures, quarantines, lockdowns, whatnot. But there have been plenty of legislation that affects virtually everyone.

The tax organizer incorporates questions that scan for the tax-saving opportunities. While some are real gems infusing thousands of cash into businesses and households, some are embarrassingly pathetic and inadequate.

Our firm has spent a great amount of time and resources staying on top of the massive volume of new laws and forms. Please be patient as we ask you to fill out additional worksheets that were not present in the past. Education about the changes and how they will affect you will be our top priority!

Please submit ALL of the requested forms no later than March 15. We will not begin processing returns until we receive all documents.

Your Tax Preparation Process… 4 easy Steps

STEP 1. Review and sign the 2020 Individual Tax Preparation Engagement Letter. In the Engagement Letter, you will be asked to upgrade to the optional package with additional services and sign an ACH authorization. By default, each client receives 30 minutes of consultative support during 2021.

If you already signed up with one of our Business/Tax Planning packages, skip this Step.

STEP 2. Read and acknowledge receipt of the 2021 Client Guide. Please take our guidelines to heart so that we could make our relationship as smooth as possible this year. All important dates that we strictly adhere to are contained in the Guide. I encourage you to download it and keep it handy throughout the year.

STEP 3. Complete a short Tax Organizer. To ensure accuracy and protect you from penalties, we require all clients to fill out the organizer electronically or by paper. Completing the tax organizer gives us a comprehensive overview of the additional information and documents needed for your tax return preparation and gives you a forum to ask questions/receive feedback on areas you may have questions… So please complete as many pertinent fields as possible.

STEP 4. Securely upload your tax forms to the ShareFile portal. If you are a returning client, your portal may be assessed 24/7/365 by logging in with the password you set up in the past. If you are a new client, before your portal is up, you can temporarily securely upload your tax forms without registration. To protect your sensitive information from unauthorized use or distribution, it is our policy to NOT email or mail out a copy of your return.

If you prefer to drop off your paper file and complete a paper copy of the Engagement Letter and Tax Organizer, please schedule an appointment.

Expect that our last year's fees will remain similar unless atypical facts are present or we come back with a new quote prior to commencement of work. Of course, please ask questions if you need more clarity or have any technical difficulties.
